On this page, I will be explaining some elements of photography as well as exhibiting my work as an example for each element!
Form:
Forms are three dimensional. They have height, width and thickness. This photograph resembles form since it reveals the height, width and thickness of the building. This picture could also resemble colour since there are many different colours present in this picture, such as: the green of the grass, the grey-orange tint colour of the building and the blue of the sky.
Shape:
Shapes are flat. Some are geometric, others are organic. Geometric shapes are squares, circles etc. Organic shapes are irregular. This picture is an example of organic shape as the pedals of the flower are irregular shapes. This picture could also be an example of emphasis as the flower is being emphasized while everything else is blurred out.
Texture:
Texture is the way something feels when you touch it, Artists create texture in artwork, such as: paintings and prints. This picture is an example of texture as the the rough feeling of the ground is depicted.
Lines:
Lines create shapes, patterns and textures. Division of two colours, tints, tones or shades create a line. The trunk and branches create lines in this picture. This picture could also serve as an example of rhythm, a principle of photography, since the repetition of the leaves and branches create a rhythmic pattern.
Value:
Value is the lightness or darkness of a colour. You can get different values of a colour by mixing its shades and tints. This picture shows value as different values of brown is exhibited in this picture. A shade of dark brown is present around the picture while a lighter shade of brown is present at the centre of the picture.
Colour:
Colours are light-waves absorbed or reflected by everything around us. This picture serves an example of colour as one leaf exhibits two different colours, green and red.
Space:
Space is an empty place or surface in or around a work of art. Space can 2D, 3D, negative and/or positive. This picture resembles space as, around the tree, which is the work of art, there is an empty space. This picture could also serve as an example of value as different shades of green are depicted in the leaves of the tree.
