On this page, I will be explaining some of the principles of photography as well as exhibiting my work as an example for each principle!
Rhythm:
Rhythm is created by repeating art elements and creating patterns. This picture serves as an example of rhythm as the flowers are repeated throughout the picture, creating a rhythmic pattern.
Balance:
Balance describes how artists create visual weight. This picture, especially the pathway, exhibits symmetrical balance. However, if focused on the entire picture, this creates asymmetrical balance since a greater amount of the building is shown to the right.
Proportion:
Proportion describes the size, location or amount of one thing compared to another. This picture serves as an example of proportion as it describes the size of the cars on the street compared to the large size of the building and vice-versa.
Variety:
Variety occurs when an artist creates something that looks different from the rest of the artwork. This picture exhibits variety as the unusual, white colour of the flower looks very different from the rest of the picture. This picture could also serve as an example of colour as there are many present, such as: the white of the flower emphasized, the green of the leaves, the pink and brown colour of the flowers in the background and the grey colour of the asphalt.
Unity:
Unity is the feeling that everything in the work of art works together and looks like it fits. Repetition of shape and colour can make an artwork unified. This picture serves as an example of unity because the shapes and the green colours of the leaves are repeated to make this picture look unified.
Movement:
Movement creates the look and feeling of action. The blurry picture of the car compared to the still picture of its surroundings create the look of the car's movement.
Emphasis:
Artists use emphasis to make certain parts of their artwork stand out and grab your attention. In this picture, out of all the flowers, the one with the insect on it grabs the audience's attention as the rest of the picture is blurred and only one flower is focused on.
Pattern:
Artists create pattern by repeating a line, shape or colour over and over again. This picture serves as an example of pattern as the lines of the bench are repeated several times. This picture could also serve as an example of lines, an element of photography, as this picture depicts many lines that are part of the bench.
