On this page, I will explain and display examples of different types of photography. In addition, I will exhibit my own work as an example of each type of photography!
Descriptive Photo:
A descriptive photograph is an accurate and objective image that depicts a form of information. On the left side, the x ray of the Nissan GTR is a descriptive photo because it displays the different components that the car contains that make it an amazing performance automobile. On the right side, the photo of the business card is a descriptive image as it displays important information about this store.
Explanatory Photograph:
An explanatory photograph provides visual explanation about something. The example on the left explains how a person performs a front flip. My own example, on the right side, explains how a person walks forward. Photo Model: Avery Nguyen.
Interpretive Photograph:
An interpretive photograph tends to show things or events from a particular perspective. The photographer becomes the director and causes something to take place. On the left, my example of an interpretive photograph displays Erin Johnston in front of a church that I, as the photographer, set up for this photo. On the right is an example of another interpretive photograph taken by a professional photographer. In this photo, the photographer also sets up the young girl to look out the window for the photo.
Ethical Judgment Photograph:
Ethical judgement photos describe and criticize the society in which we live. The photo on the right depicts a youth that is on the street, hopeless. Similarly , the photo on the right depicts Erin Johnston as the model for a photograph that depicts youth on the streets.
Art Photograph:
Art photographs are about the wonder and beauty of visual form. Both of these examples depict different kinds of beauty in the photographs themselves.
Theoretical Photograph:
Theoretical photographs play around with the illusions and principles of photography. The photo on the left displays roses with very vibrant coloured pedals. Similarly, I changed the colours of the flower in the picture to the right to mimic a theoretical photograph.
